Dear Friend of the Bristol Train Station,

As President of the Bristol Train Station Foundation, I’m reaching out with great optimism for the future of this treasured landmark and the community it serves. While the return of passenger rail remains an exciting goal, our mission extends beyond transportation — it’s about preserving and celebrating the heart of Bristol’s history and hospitality.

Since 1902, the Bristol Train Station has stood as the front porch of our community, welcoming residents and visitors alike. At our Inaugural Community Open House in May 2026, we heard countless stories from Bristolians who had personal memories of welcoming family to Bristol at the Train Station in the '60s and '70s, returning home after travels abroad, and even seeing Elvis pass through during his time in the Army. Each year, the Train Station hosts events that bring our community together, ranging from nonprofit gatherings, community meetings, weddings and celebrations of life, to visits from Mayors, State Secretaries, and even both the Tennessee and Virginia Governors. Every event adds to the station’s legacy as a place where Bristol comes together.

Working alongside regional partners and the “To and Thru Bristol Passenger Rail” Coalition, we remain committed to ensuring the station is ready to serve as a vibrant gateway when passenger service returns. In the meantime, our current priorities include exterior painting, landscaping, walkway repairs, and upgrades to electrical, HVAC, security, and Wi-Fi systems. These improvements are vital to preserving the station’s integrity and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all.

The Foundation, in partnership with the YWCA of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, manages the depot’s daily operations. While event rentals generate some income, we rely on private donations to fund necessary preservation and restoration work.

The Bristol Train Station Foundation Board consists of neighbors and friends who believe this station is worth preserving for the next generation.
